Savings Report!

19 Jan

I am so excited to be back shopping and saving $.  For the past few months I have really been on the go.  My family has blown through way too much money, eating out, picking things up on the go and not planning my grocery store visits.  So…I am back on the saving money mission.  I must say that I am pleased with my first big shopping trip of the year.  I want to share it with all of you.

First pictures…

I shopped at Farm Fresh Market and Harris Teeter.  Harris Teeter was having a great sale with tons of Buy 2, Get 3 Free sales and super double coupons where they doubled coupons up to $1.98 face value!  So here is a run down of everything that I purchased.

Harris Teeter:

  • Lysol Toilet Bowl Cleaner, (2) Ziploc Storage Container w/4 containers in each, Cottonelle Moist Wipes, Kleenex Wipes refill, Cottonelle Kids Moist Wipes, Special K Bars, Peter Pan Peanut Butter, Crisco Olive Oil, Electrasol Gel Packs, (3) Beachnut Stage 3 jar baby foods, (2) Harris Teeter Fruit Snacks, H.T. Salsa, H.T. Toaster Pastry 12ct, H.T. Toaster Pastry 6ct, (5) Northland Cranberry Juices, (3) Herbal Essences Hair Conditioners, Crest Pro Health Night Toothpaste/Mouthwash combo pack, (3 packs) H.T. Shoestring Fries, Blistex Lip Balm, Orajel for Kids, Mission Tortilla’s & (2) Whole Wheat Goldfish. Original Total= $155.92 ~ Amount Paid= $61.77

Farm Fresh Market @ Harbour Heights

  • (5)White House Apple Juice, (3) Richfood Canned Tomatoes, Richfood Apple Cider, (4) Richfood Canned Beans, (5) Richfood Canned Veggies, Red Wine Vinegar, Golden Grahams Cereal, (3) Honey Nut Cheerios, Cheerios, Fiber One, (2) Success Brown Rice, Success Jasmine Rice, Frito Lay 22ct Family Pack of chips, (2)Healthy Harvest Whole Wheat Linguine, (2) V8 Splash Juice, V8 Fusion Juice, (4) Tropicana Orange Juices, Uncle Ben’s Brown Rice, Rice Vinegar, (3) Deer Park 6 Pks, Deer Park Water, 3lb Bananas, Cucumbers, Romaine Lettuce, Baby Carrots, (2) Spring Salad Mix, Morningstar Farms Chik’n Nuggets. Original Total= $97.90  ~ Amount Paid=$59.36

So that was a total of  $253.82 in groceries for $121.13!!  A savings of more than 50%!  I met my goal of saving at least 50% during every shopping visit!  I came back home very happy with my purchases, but questioning where it was all going to go! 🙂

My DH was so excited about the Northland Juices that were buy 2, get 3 free, originally priced at $3.89 each, that we went back and bought more.  We ended up with 30 variations of cranberry juices for $46, $1.55 each.  Had those same juices been purchased without the sale it would have cost $116.00.  FYI…they are currently running a buy 2, get 3 free sale on the Old Orchard Healthy Balance juice line.  That sale ends today, 1/19.  Excellent prices for 100% juice!

Tips:  Make a list of what you actually need to buy and try to stick to it!  Check the ads for stores that have the items you need on sale.  Gather coupons for the items on your list and try to couple them with store sales.

Thanks for that information Michelle. I didn’t realize that their rain checks never expire. I also like that H.T. will substitute items if something is out of stock. Last night I was shopping and wanted some of the Crystal 12 pk bottled water that was on sale buy 1, get 2 free but they were out of stock. The manager on duty chose another brand which had 15 bottles instead of 12 and gave it to me as the buy 1, get 2 free. I left with 45 bottles of water for $3.50! That’s great!!
