Norfolk Harborfest this weekend

This weekend is the 34th Annual Norfolk Harborfest®,
Hampton Roads’ Largest Dock Party
34 years of festival traditions are celebrated on land as well as on the river!


Location: Town Point Park, Downtown Norfolk, Virginia
Date: June 11-13, 2010
Time: Friday: Noon – 11 pm
Saturday: Noon -11 pm
Sunday: Noon – 6 pm

Water Park

New for 2010 is the Norfolk Harborfest Water Park! The Water Park will be located in the Nauticus Forecourt and will be open on Sunday, June 13, 2010.

The Water Park will feature fun slip n’ slides, water balloon toss, super soakers, baby wading pools, sprinkers and much more.

Military Family Freebie

Good Morning!  I hope that you enjoyed Memorial Day!  For many it is a time to visit family and friends, cook out, shop and enjoy a day off, but for others they took= a moment to stop and recognize all of the people that gave their lives for our country.  Personally, I hold dear the memory of my late grandfather James A. Bowman who passed away in 1981.  He was a U.S. Army veteran and a wonderful man!  I love you Papa!

Since I am writing about military, I thought I would share this timely freebie.   With the summer break quickly approaching for school children across the country, military families will hopefully take advantage of this offer.

Blue Star Museums is a partnership among Blue Star Families, the National Endowment for the Arts, and more than 700 museums in all 50 states to offer free admission to active duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day, May 31, 2010, through Labor Day, September 6, 2010.

  • If you are active duty military personnel and/or an immediate family member, all you need to do is show either a Geneva Conventions CAC Card, a DD Form 1173, or a DD Form 1173-1 at the museum admissions desk. Immediate family members under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an appropriate ID holder.

America’s Best Idea – the national parks – gets even better this summer with three fee-free weekends at more than 100 national parks that usually charge entrance fees*.

Mark your calendars for fee-free weekends this summer:

  • June 20-21, 2009 (Father’s Day weekend)
  • July 18-19, 2009
  • August 15-16, 2009

And to make the fun even more affordable, many national park concessioners are joining the National Park Service in welcoming visitors on this summer’s fee free weekends with the their own special offers.
